October 2025 update on Beltinge and Reculver, from Councillors Jeanette and Ian Stockley, Rcahel Carnac and Dan Watkins:
A public meeting on road safety was held in September at the Reculver & Beltinge Memorial Hall following the tragic death of a young driver. The feedback was unanimous - residents want action taken as soon as possible to make the road safer, including the rapid build-out of the promised traffic-calming measures along the road, ie raised tables, zebra crossing and mini roundabouts (see map above).
Here are the agreed next steps, which can be used to track progress:
- KCC to forward-fund the traffic calming works (per the KCC/Kitewood S106) so that they are built sooner rather than later
- KCC to expand those traffic calming works to include the eastern part of Reculver Rd not currently provided for
- Police to do roadside speed-gun sessions to catch speeding vehicles
- KCC/police to consider installation of speed cameras to cover speeding drivers and illegal parking in bus stop by the Co-op
- KCC to consider installation of digital display signs showing current speed/'slow down'/emojis (as used on other Kent roads)
- KCC to build pavement on section of road where none exists, near the Rising Sun
- KCC to install a traffic mirror opposite Seaview Rd
- CCC to consider resident requests for changed parking arrangements, via the Annual Parking Review.
June 2025 Reculver ward update, by Councillor Rachel Carnac:
Planning issues - I work closely with residents on a range of planning issues, making sure your views are represented and that concerns about drainage, highways, the environment and a lack of infrastructure are taken seriously. Through a consistent approach, I have had success in making planning think again about a number of applications that would be detrimental.
For example, there are problems, including dust, mud on the roads, and unfinished paths, that need resolving on the Hillborough site with the developer. I have requested new bins and monitoring along the new May St pedestrian path too. I keep in regular communication with Taylor Wimpey and the planning department on behalf of residents.
Reculver Country Park - after two public meetings, which I attended, the council has undertaken work this year to protect nesting skylarks and corn buntings. The Friends of Reculver along with our volunteer groups have put in many hours over the past year keeping paths tidy, removing litter and improving habitat. Many thanks to them for their ongoing hard work.
Supporting residents in Reculver - I have been working with caravan owners to ensure they have more certainty over their residential status with the council and the site owner. I am also talking to stakeholders about how we can get an improved bus service.
Reculver Church of England Primary School celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, and I am delighted to be able to join with pupils and staff to share this special occasion in June.
