Save the Bandstand, Herne Bay
Helping Businesses following the Closure of St George's Public Toilets

October 2025 Herne Bay update, from Councillors Liz Harvey and David Thomas:

Canterbury City Council is close to agreeing funding for the structural works needed to re-open the stage for the next summer season. We'd also like to see the top section of the Bandstand renovated and seating made available. A lovely view of the sea 🏖

Thanks to everyone who has signed the petition to date 💪😃

June 2025 Herne Bay update, from Councillors Liz Harvey and David Thomas:

  • the St George's toilet block on Central Parade has been condemned, leaving that side of the pier without any public toilets and the local businesses there being overwhelmed by requests from holiday makers to use their facilities; as the local councillors we reached out and got agreement from Canterbury City Council to add portaloos to the clear space opposite Harry's Cafe; getting permission from Kent County Council to use their land took some time, but it was agreed a few days ago and the portaloos are now in position; longer-term we will work with CCC on a plan to redevelop the toilet block to include new public conveniences worthy of our glorious seafront!
  • in response to a surge of anti-social behavoiur, we have set up a public meeting at the Kings Hall with Kent Police and Canterbury City Council to understand what it being done to tackle crime and what more can be done; all are welcome ad you can find more details about the meeting here
